Ingredients

1 cup

Red lentils

4 cups

Water

1/4 tsp

Hing

1/2 tsp

Turmeric powder

1 tsp

Cumin seeds

1 tsp

Mustard seeds

2 cloves

Garlic

1 tsp

Ginger

Tomatoes

1 cup

Spinach

to taste

Salt

1 tbsp

Lemon juice

1 tsp

Oil

Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Step 1

  • Rinse the lentils thoroughly.
  • In a large pot, heat oil over medium heat. Add cumin and mustard seeds; let them splutter.
  • Add minced garlic and ginger; saute for a minute.

20 Minutes

Step 2

  • Add chopped tomatoes and cook until soft.
  • Add lentils, water, hing, turmeric powder, and salt. Bring to a boil.
  • Reduce heat and simmer for 20–25 minutes.
  • Add chopped spinach; cook for another 5 minutes.

5 Minutes

Step 3

  • Stir in lemon juice before serving.
  • Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve it hot.
